VPNArea: Is it more secure?

Internet activity and data possessed by a user can be protected using a virtual private network. There are many VPN service providers on the market, which leads us to the discussion of finding the most reliable of them all. Here we have reviewed one of the most popular VPN companies for your reference.

VPNArea is a Bulgarian company, but it is based in Switzerland and offers some high quality features. It has a user-friendly interface and offers good levels of security.

Is My Privacy Protected with VPNArea?

VPNArea is known to be one of the best in terms of the privacy it offers to its customers. They take the privacy of every single one of their subscribers seriously. On data collection, the company states: “We do not track your web activities while logged into the VPN Service. In general, we collect the following information from users: Account Information. To create an account, you will need to provide certain personal information, such as your name, your country, city and e-mail. You will also need to select a username and password and provide us with payment information. If you choose to pay with a credit card, the only information collected will be collected by PayPal.” Privacy aspects as far as information collection are pretty good. Now let us look at logging policy.
As mentioned by the company, “We do not monitor, record or store logs for any single customer's VPN activity. We do not monitor, record or store any login dates, timestamps, incoming and outgoing IP addresses, bandwidth statistics or any other identifiable data of any VPN users using our VPN servers.” From this statement, it is very clear that VPNArea does not collect or store usage and connection logs of its subscribers. They only collect data of site visitors in the form of cookies, and that is mainly for improving the overall site performance. The company also states that it does not sell or market your confidential data in any manner, which means information is not disclosed to anyone. The presence of an automatic kill switch also makes it one of the most secure networks around. If you are looking for best in class privacy, then VPNArea should be your pick.

How Much is VPNArea? Is There a Free Trial?

Just like most of the VPN service providers in the market, VPNArea also offers three different membership plans.

  • 1 month plan - This will cost you $9.90/month and you need to renew it every month in order to continuously have access to the VPN services.
  • 6 months - A single payment of $50 will give you 6 months of unconditional service, and you can save almost $10 by opting for this plan.
  • 1 year - The yearly subscription plan is the most attractive option of them all, with an attractive one-time fee of $59, which means the monthly fee is just $4.92. You can save almost $60 by signing up for this plan.

VPNArea features are provided to all the subscription plans and there are no restrictions imposed on users, which is exciting. However, there is no free trial available, which might be disheartening to some of you. All plans come with a 7-day money back guarantee, which is a relief. Accepted payment methods include VISA, Master Card, PayPal, Payza and Bitcoin. As you can see, pricing is a bit higher when compared to other VPN service providers.

VPNArea Speed Test

Speed is one of the major factors to look for in a VPN because in reality, the speed of a VPN connection will be slower than your normal internet connection. Therefore it is essential to find a service provider that offers good network speeds. Download speed results were pretty amazing with some of the UK and European servers, clocking almost 40 to 50Mbps, which will be more than enough to stream HD videos. Upload speed results for some servers in the US and other countries were higher than the download speeds, which is not ideal.
You can check for the performance results of all the different servers provided by the company on a regular basis because this is a value that often fluctuates. Leak test results on prominent servers such as US, UK etc. were positive, but DNS leaks were detected in some of the international servers. No leaks were detected on IPv4, IPv6 and WebRTC leak tests on most of the servers operated by VPNArea.

How is Customer Service at VPNArea?

A bunch of different customer support options are available for subscribers to resolve their problems and doubts. VPNArea is very transparent and you can find all the contact information on their website, including that of the managing director. Skype, live chat and email are the three different forms of communications. Live chat is not 24/7, which can be improved to become one of the best support providers.
Email queries related to legal, technical, sales or others can be directed to the respective mail addresses mentioned on their support page. There is a separate FAQ section on their site, which is for those who are looking to learn about the service or to obtain additional information on some exclusive features, or for those looking to solve minor issues. Chat responses seemed to not be up to par, but email responses were pretty good. Customer support may not be excellent, but is definitely above average when it comes to competitors.

VPNArea servers and emails are hosted in Switzerland, but the company is registered in Bulgaria, which means it is bound to follow all the laws and jurisdictions that are in place at Bulgaria. Let us list some of the prominent features on offer:

  • 200+ servers operating from more than 69 countries gives you a wide access range.
  • 200+ servers operating from more than 69 countries gives you a wide access range.
  • 6 simultaneous connections allowed.
  • Server load monitor.
  • No DNS, IPv6, IPv4 and WebRTC leaks.
  • Unlimited bandwidth.
  • Ad-blocking.
  • No usage and connection logs.
  • Shared IPs.
  • Kill switch feature.
  • Exclusive streaming servers.
  • Account sharing.
  • Multiple device and OS support.
  • No log DNS servers.
  • Email, Skype and chat support.
  • Stealth mode VPN.
  • P2P sharing and torrenting allowed.
  • Anonymous payment processing.
  • Double VPN servers.

Software support provided by VPNArea is the best in the industry with OS support even for Linux, Ubuntu and other, older software versions that are still used by some customers. Setting up VPNArea is very easy and the user will not have any problem installing and connecting to any of the servers operated by them. Make sure to set up the right OS based VPNArea app for your device. The interface is simple and elegant with attractive features like optional kill switch, anti DNS leak, auto IP changer and so on.
The kill switch feature is optional and we recommend you to use it because the connection will be automatically disconnected once the VPN server connection gets terminated. The anti-DNS-leak feature allows the subscriber to test the DNS leak on the servers provided by the company, and further decide whether to connect with that particular server or not, depending on the test result.

Is VPNArea Safe?

VPNArea supports only two protocol connections, namely OpenVPN and PPTP. OpenVPN is the most secure connection of the two and should be your preferred choice right away. A 256-bit AES military-grade encryption algorithm is what the OpenVPN protocol operates with, and that means you get the best security. Some of the security features included by VPNArea are forward secrecy, 256-bit AES cipher, RSA 2048 handshake and HMAC SHA 512 control authentication.
The anti-DNS- and Anti-WebRTC-leak detection system works seamlessly and helps ensure security while a user is connected to any of the servers. The kill switch feature also provides another layer of security, as we discussed earlier. Another neat little security feature is an automatic IP-changer, which allows the subscriber to set server connection intervals. This means you can set the IP to change automatically every 15 minutes. This is a nice feature to have and we think most of you would love it.

Bottom Line

VPNArea is one of those privacy- and security-oriented VPN companies you can find in the market now. All their policies and features are focused on providing the best in class security and anonymity. Exciting features such as the automatic IP-changer, a dedicated IP address, the kill switch, etc. are certainly some of the best ones on offer. The VPNArea programs are excellent and can be used on all major OS devices. There are a couple of shortcomings, like the non-existence of 24/7 live chat support, confusing support directory and no free trial option. Apart from these minor flaws, VPNArea performs exceptionally well.

User Comments

Compared to the other VPNS, VPNArea is much relatively higher. This has limitted my access to this VPN. Guys please revist this issue.
VPNArea is the best in the industry. It really worked well with my OS support for Linux and Ubuntu. I loved the way it worked on both.
When you compare this vpn to other vpns. Its a little bit much higher than normal ones. Price might be an issue when I have to bill again.
Frankly speaking, the company uses a lot of self-promoting buzzwords. However, they deliver very little on the same.
The live chat is not 24/7. This made me find it difficulty in handling some of the issue that arose while I was using this VPN. I believe this can be improved.
This was one of the reasons I chose this vpn. It turned out to be a great deal especially with my ip sensitive content. Thank you VPNArea.
VPN Area served me very well. They offered me a variety of choices. These incleded, VISA, PayPal, Master Card, Payza and Bitcoin. It is an aworesome vpn.
The only way I was able to contact them was through email. It took so long for me to get the replies. I did not like this at all.
Despite the fact that this feature allowed me to set server connection intervals of 15 minutes. I think this feature might also come with the challenge of hacker loophole.
Cryptostorm VPN offered me the slowest speed. I have never experienced this kind of speed with any other vpn.
