BulletVPN Review

Based in Estonia, BulletVPN is a decent VPN service provider with servers in 29 countries. Its package comes with a variety of protocols, three simultaneous connections, unlimited data and bandwidth, Smart DNS, a 30-day full-refund policy, and apps for all platforms.

Is My Privacy Protected with BulletVPN?

Because it is based in Estonia, BulletVPN is one of the best VPNs in terms of privacy and security, because this region is outside the jurisdiction of the data retention laws of Western countries. This service provider keeps its word by not holding onto any usage logs from their customers. This includes DNS lookups, websites visited, and other user activity. You will, however, need to use an email, password and other commonly required details to sign up for the VPN service. For an additional layer of security, you can use Bitcoin as a payment option, which creates even more privacy.

When it comes to security, BulletVPN uses AES-256 encryption for authentication and protocols. Thanks to the SHA-512 and 4,096-bit RSA keys, often termed “military-grade,” 256-bit encryption is the best one on the market. Multiple protocols are available for various operating systems, and each client allows you to switch between protocols in the settings.

Noticeably absent is a DNS leak protection, which, like IPv6 leak protection, is a staple for VPN service providers. Granted, BulletVPN uses its own DNS servers rather than the public ones. However, its servers did show signs of DNS leaks when tested.

Most providers feature a built-in kill switch in their apps, allowing clients the option to drop the connection if for whatever reason the VPN connection is lost. This is a highly useful tool that serves as a backup for keeping your information secure. Unfortunately, this provider does not include it in their arsenal.

How Much is BulletVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

BulletVPN has the standard pricing system which includes three plans: a yearly, 6-month, and monthly subscription plan. The subscription plan costs are as follows:

  • Yearly Subscription: $7.50 per month (Billed $89.98 every 12 months)
  • 6-Month Subscription: $9.16 per month (Billed $54.98 every 6 months)
  • Monthly Subscription: $10.98 per month

Among premium VPN service providers, BulletVPN is considered as one of the most affordable because of the $7.50 per month price point. The provider accepts PayPal, credit cards, Bitcoin, bank transfer, e-Wallets, and prepaid cards among other payment methods. The service does not offer a free trial.

When looking for VPN service providers, avoid the ones that have a short refund policy. A 30-day money-back guarantee, which is what BulletVPN offers for all its subscription plans, is ideal. A 14-day money-back guarantee might be acceptable. However, a 7-day refund policy is not good enough because 7 days are too few to put a VPN service to the test. Major VPN service providers such as NordVPN and ExpressVPN offer a 30-day refund policy, meaning you can test their servers for one month at zero risk.

BulletVPN Speed Test

This service provider’s server network is admittedly small, with 47 servers in 29 countries. It is, however, the right VPN service for you if you are looking for US Geo-blocking because many of its servers are located in the US. For quick and easy access, the BulletVPN desktop client allows you to save your favorite servers.

Even though the server network is not as large as that of other larger VPN providers, it is still quite reliable. We had no issues playing online games when connected to various servers in the UK and the US. We also did not experience any buffering when we streamed 1080p content using the same servers. Moreover, there were no delays in connecting to servers or disconnecting from them.

The speed performance of BulletVPN fairs well when compared to other top VPN service providers. It may not be the fastest on the market, but it is certainly not among the slowest ones either. As with other service providers, speeds drop depending on how far away the VPN server is located.

How is Customer Service at BulletVPN?

You will find many options when you go to the support tab on the BulletVPN website. The setup guides available are easy to understand because they are presented well. Even though the FAQ and “Troubleshoot” pages on the website need improvement to become more comprehensive, they are still useful.

In case problems arise, you can contact BulletVPN support. It’s hard not be appreciative of the fact that the VPN offers support in four languages: English, Danish, German, and French. Even though it claims to have 24/7 and quick responses, when we sent a support request, we received a response more than 20 hours later, even though the request was marked as urgent. To be fair, the request had addressed multiple issues, which might explain the delay. The website only has one way of getting in touch, which is through filling an online form and waiting for them to get in touch. No phone numbers, no email, and no address is provided.

Many features are available on BulletVPN. To begin with, the provider gives you access to 47 servers scattered over 29 countries. You get great speeds compared to other VPN service providers, as well as unlimited data and bandwidth. One disadvantage of BulletVPN is that the service allows only three simultaneous connections. Other premium VPN service providers offer five or six simultaneous device connections, with some offering connections on an unlimited number of devices. So, for some users, this might be a deal-breaker.

BulletVPN has apps for all major platforms: iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows, and can also work with various other devices, including Linux. Setting up the service is not difficult, but if you run into any problems, BulletVPN provides remote support. It gives you the option of accessing the Internet through a variety of protocols, such as PPTP, OpenVPN, as well as IKEv1 and IKEv2 for iOS and L2TP for Windows.

Furthermore, you can set up a virtual router and use it to connect devices that are not VPN-Compatible. These include Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Smart TV, Roku, and Apple TV. An alternative for these devices is using the Smart DNS servers available on BulletVPN to Geo-unblock them. However, note that this is a DNS proxy that only redirects website requests (DNS traffic) and does not provide the security and privacy that a VPN does. So, if this is the only feature you are interested in, then it is certainly not worth purchasing the BulletVPN service.

Is BulletVPN Safe?

As was previously mentioned, BulletVPN offers a variety of protocols that enable you to connect from various platforms. The VPN service provider outlines its privacy policy in its Terms of Use, Cookie Policy, and Privacy Policy. However, much of the focus is placed on the use of the service provider’s website, rather than on the VPN service itself.

BulletVPN claims to have robust encryption. However, the service provider does not offer DNS leak protection or a built-in kill switch. If you are interested in torrenting, BulletVPN offers a few servers for P2P connection. So, you may want to consider other P2P services because of the absence of a kill switch.

It is important to note that although the service provider does not log users’ activity, such as DNS lookups, emails and websites visited, it does log access to the provider’s servers for the purpose of troubleshooting. According to the Terms of Service, BulletVPN does not censor or filter online content and it does not hand over your data to any government agencies unless the agency provides a court order.

This provider does not list WebRTC leak protection among the features that it offers to its users. We found no vulnerabilities or bugs specific to Windows or MacOS.

Bottom Line

BulletVPN is a great option for beginners because it offers a remote setup service on top of its highly intuitive user interface. Additionally, it provides a reliable connection and specific servers that allow you to unblock websites such as Hulu and Amazon Prime, making it a solid option for users who are interested in streaming services. Although it may not be the fastest from the bunch, this service has decent speeds and performance.

The only let down with this service has to do with the lack of DNS leak protection and the lack of a kill switch. Also, if you’re looking for a service that offers more than three simultaneous connections, you may want to look elsewhere.

Amazingly, this is the first VPN that I have come across which offers for a 30 day period money back guarantee. I used the BulletVPN for about a month before finally making up my mind on whether to use it or not. Of course I ended up subscribing for a yearly plan.
DNS Leak protection is absent from the main features that the BulletVPN provider offers. Well, I feel unsafe regardless of the good speeds that it providers. The expert team should work on this.
Finally I found a VPN that can easily help me stream 1080p videos. One thing for sure is that there is no buffering that I experienced when using the BulletVPN. This was just great for me
BulletVPN is just affordable. Guys, if you are looking for a VPN provider that will not cost you a lot more so for monthly payments then this is the right VPN for you. It certainly does not disappoint.
Well, I enjoyed the great speeds that the BulletVPN offers until I realized that it only supports up to three simultaneous connections. This is one area that the provider should make adjustments as most people have several devices that they need to connect.
I was surprised at the fact that customer care support is offered in languages such as German, English, French and Danish. This is awesome. Few VPN providers provide for such a customer support feature.
Guys, the BulletVPN uses the best encryption in the market today. This should tell you a lot about the kind of security that you would be getting.
How can I drop the connection whenever I am feeling unsafe? Well, the lack of a kill-switch was a turn-down for me. The service provider should consider installing this feature in their BulletVPN.
With the small server network in less than 30 countries, the BulletVPN is slightly disappointing. I am an avid traveler and I want a VPN that would be convenient on a global scale.
