Anonymizer VPN: Truly a global leader?

Known as the oldest personal VPN service provider, Anonymizer VPN is one of the very few VPNs to have endured the test of time in the industry. However, the brand doesn’t seem to be highly popular among VPN users worldwide.

Anonymizer VPN claims to be “the global leader in online privacy, anonymity, and identity protection solutions”. That is a huge claim to live up to. With around 20 years of experience in the industry, is the VPN really a global leader?

Is My Privacy Protected with Anonymizer VPN?

Anonymizer VPN is a US-based VPN service, a country known for its user information monitoring and tracking laws. So, it is obvious that this isn’t the ideal country for any VPN service to be based. Regardless, Anonymizer VPN has a no-logging policy; “unlike other VPN providers, we believe that what you do online is your business, so you can trust that Anonymizer will never view, track, or keep logs of the websites you visit”, is the company’s statement. Although this sounds good for a logging policy, don’t get too excited yet, because the VPN’s Privacy Policy is nothing like we expected.
Among the many VPN service providers that collect only minimal information from their users, Anonymizer VPN, despite claiming to give importance to user privacy and anonymity, collects a whole lot of user information, such as IP address, browser language, browser type, and date and time of visit. In addition, when you download their software, place an order, contact their team, etc., they “gather, retain and use certain personal information you provide”, and this information includes your name, email address, credit card number, billing and shipping address, and more.
As you can see, this is just way too much information for a VPN service to collect from its users, and it certainly brings down the level of privacy you get to enjoy from the service. On the positive side, Anonymizer VPN offers a kill switch feature.

How Much is Anonymizer VPN? Is There a Free Trial?

Unlike other VPN service providers, Anonymizer VPN offers a single pricing package: Anonymizer Pro, an annual subscription plan. The plan is priced at $79.99 and comes with features such as a one-click connection, US-based email support, zero logging, multiple device compatibility, and unlimited bandwidth and connection speed.

Another plan you can use is the Anonymizer Trial. As the name suggests, this is a free trial plan offered by the VPN service, available for 14 days, giving you the ability to test the services and performance of the service. Of course, this plan comes with some restrictions, but doesn’t require your credit card information.
In addition, Anonymizer VPN also has a 45-day refund policy, according to which you can apply for a refund if you are not completely satisfied with the VPN’s services and performance. It must be mentioned that this 45-day period is a generous offer from the service, because most VPN services provide only a few days for the same.
When it comes to making payments, the VPN service accepts only credit cards and cash.

Anonymizer VPN Speed Test

One huge disappointment about Anonymizer VPN is the number of server locations. The VPN service has servers located in just two locations: US and Amsterdam. This limited number cannot be considered even as a standard in the industry. This truly affects the service’s performance, including speed. In our tests, neither server was able to deliver decent speeds. Both download and upload speeds were bad, and so were the connection speeds. As a result, streaming, torrenting, and P2P access will not be efficient with this VPN.

How is Customer Service at Anonymizer VPN?

Anonymizer VPN offers support via their online ticket system. You need to create a ticket by entering your name, email address, type of inquiry, subject, and description and submit the same, and you will receive a response from the team via email. Though there is no other option to contact the team, the fact that the team can respond promptly is a positive aspect in terms of customer support.
The Anonymizer Community section on their website basically works like a knowledge base, where you can find information about the service in general, read FAQs, and also use installation instructions for your device.

The Anonymizer VPN website is designed to be professional and easy to navigate. There is just the right amount of information on each page, and finding the details you need wouldn’t be a problem whatsoever.

Subscribing for the VPN service is easy as well. Both the Free and the Pro plans require you to enter a username, email address and preferred password to start with. With the Free plan, you don’t have to enter your payment details, but the Pro plan requires you to enter the same. You can move on to placing your order after this step.
Anonymizer VPN is available for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Linux devices.

When it comes to features, the VPN service provides data theft protection, is easy to install and use, enables you to use public Wi-Fi networks safely and securely, helps you surf websites anonymously and discreetly, protects up to 6 devices, offers a 14-day free trial and 45-day money-back guarantee.

Is Anonymizer VPN Safe?

Although Anonymizer VPN doesn’t support all the commonly used VPN protocols, it does support the most important and most secure option: OpenVPN. In addition, the VPN service also supports the L2TP/IPSec protocol, so you can change your settings according to your device. Of course, both these protocols offer 256-bit encryption, which means your connection will remain secure always.
Even though the VPN service disappointed us in terms of speed during our test, we were quite happy to know that there were no leaks detected during the testing phase, thus making this VPN a reliable choice in terms of security.

Bottom Line

No, Anonymizer VPN is certainly not the best VPN service provider available out there, regardless of their years of experience in the industry. The brand needs to improve in many aspects, especially in its privacy and speed, in order to gain some ground in this highly competitive field.
