ZoogVPN Review

ZoogVPN is a VPN service that believes in every Internet user having the right to enjoy private, secure and unrestricted Internet from anywhere in the world. Hence, the brand promises to provide complete Internet freedom and privacy.

Established in 2013, ZoogVPN is registered in Greece, a region outside of the Fourteen Eyes countries and guarantees complete privacy to their users. With a strong mission statement which also promises the same, can they deliver on their promise?

Is My Privacy Protected with ZoogVPN?

The privacy policy offered by ZoogVPN is strong. First of all, the company follows a “Zero Logs” policy, which means that they do not store logs of users’ online activities. This is something we always expect from a VPN service provider, and this VPN service manages to satisfy us on that front. They “do not collect or keep any information on user activity, the websites or apps the user uses, user IP addresses, or user log-in/log-out sessions.” However, they do collect the total bandwidth usage of their users, which is understandable.
When it comes to the collection of user information, ZoogVPN collects your email address, which again is understandable because it is something that a VPN service would require to manage your account, for communication purposes, delivering services, etc. They do guarantee that users’ email addresses will “never be given away or sold”. “We strictly do not share, sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties”, is the company’s statement on data sharing.
On the front of information sharing, one thing that the VPN service does is share your email address with payment processors, like PayPal. This, as we know, is something extremely common and shouldn’t be a problem for users. They do guarantee that the information will remain secured and encrypted at all times, and that your email address will be used only for the intended purpose.
Although we are happy about the privacy policy offered by ZoogVPN, the fact that the company doesn’t offer a kill switch feature does bother us.

How Much is ZoogVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

ZoogVPN offers three different pricing plans: a 1 month plan, a 1 year plan, and a 2 year plan. The monthly plan is priced at $6.99 per month; the yearly plan is priced at $2.99 per month where you will be billed $35.99 annually; and the 2 years plan is priced at $1.25 per month where you will be billed $29.99 every two years. All plans have the same set of features. The pricing seems quite reasonable, especially for the long-term plans.
Additionally,, the VPN service also offers a Free plan. This plan, as expected, comes with a limited set of features, such as access to only 3 VPN servers, a 2 GB bandwidth limitation per month, encryption limited to 128-bit, access to limited protocols, and so on. If you are new to the world of VPN and looking to learn about the service before accessing the complete set of features, this plan would be a great option for you.
The VPN service also offers a 7-day money-back guarantee for all new subscriptions.
When it comes to payment methods, ZoogVPN accepts payments via PayPal, Visa, American Express, MasterCard, UnionPay, JCB, Paymentwall, and also Bitcoin.

ZoogVPN Speed Test

ZoogVPN currently has 28 VPN servers spread across 19 countries around the world. This number is certainly low and made us a bit concerned about the speed we would experience from the service. Fortunately, the overall speeds of the VPN’s servers were above average. The connection speeds, as always, varied depending on the server we connected to, and the upload and download speeds were reasonable. As a result, accessing video streaming websites like Hulu, and Netflix, shouldn’t be a problem for paid users, and when it comes to P2P, only servers in certain locations enable the same.

How is Customer Service at ZoogVPN?

ZoogVPN offers customer support via email and a ticketing system, which means that you can contact their customer service team by writing an email to [email protected] or by submitting an online ticket via their website. Although the VPN service promises 24/7 support through these means, responses usually take 24 hours or less. When we contacted the team, we received an answer within a few hours, which we found was quite reasonable compared to many other VPN services we have contacted so far, and the response was indeed accurate. However, the mention of 24/7 support is quite misleading.
Other than this, you can access the service’s FAQ and Resources sections to gather more information about the VPN. And, there is also a separate VPN Setup Wizard to guide you through the setup process for the many devices you use.

Features

Starting with the website, it must be said that the website of ZoogVPN is one of the most visually attractive pages we have seen over the years. The whole website is designed professionally, with all the right menus and information at the right places, making access and navigation extremely easy.

Signing up for the VPN service is also a simple process. Click on the Sign Up button on the main page of the website, choose a subscription plan of your liking, and you will be redirected to a page where you will be required to choose a payment method and enter your details such as name, email address, and your preferred password. Proceed to checkout and you are done.
ZoogVPN can be used on a variety of devices, and supports a wide range of operating systems, such as Windows, iOS, Android, and Mac OS. In addition, the VPN service supports Linux, Blackberry, Apple, Smart TVs, and VPN-enabled routers as well.

When it comes to features, ZoogVPN helps users bypass Internet censorship and access their favorite websites, unblock streaming services, attain Wi-Fi security, hide their IP, and use some of the best VPN protocols for maximized security. Other than these standard features, there are no exclusive or unique features offered by the VPN service.

Is ZoogVPN Safe?

Security is one area where ZoogVPN excels. The VPN service supports some of the most popular and highly secure VPN protocols, such as OpenVPN UDP 1194/TCP 443, IKEv2 and L2TP/IPsec. It also supports the less secure PPTP protocol, and all these protocols are supported with an RSA-2048 handshake, SHA256 authentication, and an AES-256-CBS cipher. ZoogVPN is also one of the few VPN services to offer Socks5 proxy. The fact that the VPN service uses and manages its own DNS servers makes it more secure and private, which means that this is one service provider you can trust when it comes to privacy and security.
Another factor which enhances the level of security offered by the VPN service is that we did not detect any leaks during the testing phase.

Bottom Line

ZoogVPN may not be the best or the top VPN service currently available on the market today; however, it is definitely a great service provider, which is likely to attract more users by improving and upgrading certain features. As discussed before, the brand needs to improve on their customer support and try and add more interesting features for users to enjoy. With the level of privacy and security it offers, it can make it to the top in no time with just a few improvements.
