Is My Privacy Protected with SaturnVPN?

Is my privacy protected with Saturn VPN?
Unfortunately for many users, Saturn VPN does keep connection logs but doesn’t state for what period these records are held. The company will hand over that information if it is presented with a court order, which a deal-breaker for many. The SaturnVPN Privacy Policy also states that they will monitor your activities if the company is presented with a court order to do so.

Privacy Policy
Our Privacy Policy is simple: we will never release any information about you or your account to anyone except law enforcement personnel with the proper documentation and paperwork. We do not and will not monitor user sessions for inappropriate behavior, unless compelled to by law enforcement with proper documentation and paperwork. However, if in the course of normal business (including complaints from the general public) we discover you violating our Terms of Service Agreement, we may terminate your account and optionally refund the balance of your account to you. Saturn VPN acknowledges and respects your privacy. saturnvpn.com will hold every bit of information provided by you with maximum care and will never use it in ways that you have not consented to.

How Much is SaturnVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

You are able to access all of the VPN protocols offered by the service with one package. The subscription plans offered by the company include a one month period, or three and six month subscriptions. There is also a one-year and a two-year plan. Longer subscription periods work out cheaper per month. However, you have to pay for the whole period up front.

Prices are given in US Dollars and you can pay with credit cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, Webmoney, and Perfect Money.

Each subscription allows the account holder to connect to the network on two separate devices simultaneously.

SaturnVPN Speed Test

I was particularly impressed by the speeds on this VPN. The speed was fast, which in turn made streaming more fun. There was no buffering and I am happy to report that streaming with Saturn VPN was a smooth sailing all the way. As much as the speeds were great, the tests did show some DNS leaks which is a little discouraging and I really hope that Saturn VPN is indeed working on this.

How is Customer Service at SaturnVPN?

Saturn VPN has one of the finest support structures in the industry. You can get help through Skype, Gtalk, Yahoo messenger and Email.

The ‘Live Help’ tab instantaneously works (hey, I checked that 5 times), so it means that Saturn VPN subscriber issues are attended to promptly. Not every VPN provider will offer you such 7×24 technical supports.

For those who are looking for a better view of Saturn VPN installation and management, there are also good ‘how to’ tutorials on the website.

Is SaturnVPN Safe?

The VPN protocols offered by SaturnVPN are PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, and OpenVPN. There are also two proprietary implementations available, which are Cisco AnyConnect and Kerio.

Unfortunately, the customer support team is not very knowledgeable about the methods used by the VPN, so any information that isn’t on the website, or can’t be deduced by looking at log files, simply isn’t available.
The company’s implementation of OpenVPN isn’t very successful. It uses Blowfish encryption with a 128-bit key. The company uses Diffie Hellman for key exchange, which is the standard methodology used for OpenVPN.

The session establishment processes are covered by 1028-bit RSA encryption. This is weak and the RSA doesn’t recommend using such a short encryption key, because there are rumors that a number of authorities, including the Chinese security services, that can crack this level of encryption. Most VPNs use a 2048-bit key for RSA and the best VPNs use a 4096-bit key.

Bottom Line

SaturnVPN is great for getting into overseas streaming video websites. However, their retention of connection logs for an unspecified period means that you should not rely on this VPN for identity protection when downloading copyrighted material. I am definitely not okay with a VPN keeping logs because it eliminates the need for a VPN anyway.
