What Is LiquidVPN?

LiquidVPN is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that has been on the market for a short time, since 2013. It’s based in the USA, and the man behind it is the networking engineer named Dave Cox. He is also the creator of the “modulated IP”, which is a unique method of address usage that obscures the identities of its users.
Nevertheless, a good VPN should provide you with security and anonymity, making sure that your browsing stays private. Almost always, customers also appreciate high speeds that will make their uploading and downloading experience more pleasant.
With all this said, is LiquidVPN the right provider for you?

Is My Privacy Protected with LiquidVPN?

Every VPN guarantees privacy, but not all deliver it. Don’t be fooled by big letters on the front page giving false promises that you will be 100% protected. Always search for the Privacy Policy and read it carefully, word by word. Only after doing this, you will understand to what extent you have your privacy and anonymity protected while browsing. That’s what we did with LiquidVPN.
The first sentence of LiquidVPN’s privacy policy was simple “The websites you visit and the type of data you’re sending/receiving is your business. We do not monitor this kind of traffic”. So is this true?
Well, after reading the whole policy, we concluded that LiquidVPN has pretty much the same rules as many other VPNs. Although they don’t keep your usage logs, they do keep some of the connection logs. This means that they will keep your login attempts and transaction information, such as your name, email address, and if you are using your credit card, some additional information. They have also included an abuse policy, which describes the way they deal with abuse when detected. They say that in this case, they will share any transaction data with the proper authorities. This is far from the perfect policy we expected, but LiquidVPN is transparent about it, so if you don’t do anything unethical or illegal then you won’t have a problem.
On a more positive note, LiquidVPN offers a kill switch which excludes the option of accidentally revealing your real IP address due to an unexpected connection failure.

How Much is LiquidVPN? Is There a Free Trial?

LiquidVPN does not offer the usual basic price plans. Instead, this VPN has three deals that differ in price based on their features.
The first one is SideKick, which is also the cheapest option, costing only $7 per month. Or, if you would like to opt for the one-year plan, $4.75 per month. With SideKick, you get two simultaneous connections, and 564 IP addresses in 11 countries.
The second one is Road Warrior. It costs $10 per month, or with the yearly discount, $5.75 per month. With Road Warrior, you get up to four device connections and 2168 IP addresses in 11 countries.
The final is the most expensive one and it’s called “Ultimate”. With this offer, you get up to 8 simultaneous connections in 11 countries and 2160 IP addresses. The offer costs $18, or with the yearly discount, $8.83 per month.
This is not a cheap offer, even if we take into consideration the first plan. Also, be careful, if you are not satisfied with their service, but forget to cancel the subscription, you will be charged again.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any information regarding a free trial or any kind of money-back guarantee, which is definitely something that should be changed. When buying their service, you can pay in cash, with Bitcoin, PayPal, or credit cards.

LiquidVPN Speed Test

All VPN providers slow down your Internet connection. Some more than others. It largely depends on other factors as well, such as the number of servers and locations. LiquidVPN does not offer the highest number of servers, but it has over 2000 IP addresses in 11 locations around the world. This is a relatively low number, but nonetheless, the speeds that we got were satisfying.
If you are looking for a provider solely for torrenting, streaming, or gaming, this might not be the right choice for you, but if this is not your biggest concern LiquidVPN is perfectly fine. This provider showed good speeds on most of its servers, which means you can safely browse the Internet without a problem.
When it comes to leaks, we tested LiquidVPN and it showed good results or no leaks at all, which is a great thing. Overall, they could work on improving the number of servers and the speed in general, but compared to many other providers, LiquidVPN is still very decent.

How is Customer Service at LiquidVPN?

When it comes to customer service, LiquidVPN offers good feedback. The first option they provide is their large knowledgebase, which is very informative. If you can’t find a solution to your problem there, you can turn to their more advanced support or the ticketing system.
They have four options when it comes to this, plus a feedback email. Depending on your problem, you can contact either their technical support, sales department, billing department, or business support. As mentioned before, they also have an email where you can offer your feedback.
They don’t, however, offer a live chat or 24/7 support for their customers, which is a huge drawback.
We had difficulties with their page at the beginning because it’s a bit crowded and it will take some time until you get a hold of it. But after figuring it out, you will see that they actually have very detailed explanations for almost every problem you could face if you are a beginner or even an advanced user.

We couldn’t help but notice that their website needs a lot of improvement, from the design to the features. It’s messy and very unappealing. On the other hand, when we try to open something, the main menu disappears, and you can’t go back unless you click the browser’s button to return. For some, this might not sound important, but if you are a potential user that wants to decide whether this is the right VPN for you or not, a simpler website would have a better chance of closing the deal.
However, if we focus on the features, we were satisfied overall, because LiquidVPN offers:

  • 4096 bit RSA encrypted handshakes;
  • Data channel ciphers AES-256-GCM, AES-256-CBC, AES-128-GCM, and AES-128-CBC;
  • OpenVPN, SSTP, PPTP, OpenConnect and L2TP/IPSEC;
  • 2048 bit HMAC firewall protection;

To make it simpler, with this VPN you get top-notch security. You will also get 45 VPN servers in 11 countries with over 65Gbps of bandwidth and 2100 public IP addresses, P2P and torrenting, VPN firewall and a kill switch that will prevent data and DNS leaks, unlimited bandwidth, server and topology switching.
The main difference between LiquidVPN and other providers is the “modulated” IP address they offer. Most providers have a system of shared VPNs, some offer a dedicated IP address. LiquidVPN has both of these options plus the modulated IP address. We already mentioned that this is a unique way of protecting the identities of the customers. It works in a way where it gives you a new IP address for every element of a webpage. It’s so effective that it can easily get around the proxy detection system of Netflix, which is one of the most thorough systems in the world.
LiquidVPN is compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Is LiquidVPN Safe?

In the features above, we mentioned that LiquidVPN uses OpenVPN, SSTP, PPTP, OpenConnect, and 2TP/IPSec protocol. This information alone points out that they do care about their users’ security.
OpenVPN is one of the safest protocols in this industry, and together with AES-256-GCM, AES-256-CBC, AES-128-GCM, or AES-128-CBC encryption you will have a pleasant experience. The second cipher, or the AES-256-CBS encryption combined with an OpenVPN protocol is considered to be the highest form of security. Additionally, the encryption keys are renewed every half hour.
You also get a firewall protection, a kill switch, and a safe connection with no leaks whatsoever.

Bottom Line

At first, we didn’t find this VPN promising at all, but after seeing what it can do we quickly changed our minds. It’s a relatively good provider, and if you want a huge range of features spiced up with excellent security, we strongly recommend LiquidVPN. Although some things still have room for improvement, overall this Virtual Private Network has the potential to become a decent competitor even to the best VPNs in the industry.
