What is Liberty Shield?
Established back in 2008, Liberty Shield was once known as the UK Proxy Server. This VPN provider was one of the first commercial providers of Proxy and VPN services. Additionally, they also sell hardware. Lately, their focus has been set on their pre-configured VPN Routers. One of their advantages is that they offer both VPN and proxy services to their customers, but in terms of privacy, security, and features, how much can you rely on this provider?
Is My Privacy Protected with LibertyShield VPN?
With all this said, we are not that satisfied with the privacy protection that Liberty Shield is offering. However, presuming that you are not doing anything that is unlawful, you can still consider using this VPN provider.
Unfortunately, Liberty Shield does not offer a kill switch either, which is another downside. If you want top-notch privacy when searching for a suitable VPN, always consider using one that has a kill switch, as it’s an emergency stop feature that serves as a safety mechanism for VPNs. They are designed to prevent accidental exposure of your real IP address.
Also, Liberty Shield has a small and limited amount of servers and locations, thus Geo-spoofing your location is not at full potential.
How Much is LibertyShield VPN? Is There a Free Trial?
Formerly known as the UK Proxy Server, now Liberty Shield, this company sells Proxy and VPN, but also hardware. In terms of price, this VPN service offers more options and they are affordable, but not at all cheap.
On their website you will see the prices for their VPN subscriptions, varying from £6.99 for a month to £69.99 for a whole year. They also have a quarterly plan for £19.99 and a 6-months subscription for £35.00. In USA dollars the prices vary from around $10 to $100 for a whole year.
Compared even with the best VPN providers, this is a bit expensive. Also, they do not offer a free trial or a free plan. What they do have is a 24-hour money-back policy. However, when checking whether a VPN server works for you, 24 hours is usually not enough time. On the other hand, with the features this VPN provider offers, they somewhat overcompensate for their high price.
Paying for their service is also very limited. You can only choose to pay with a debit/credit card, and only if it’s Visa or MasterCard. No other ways of payment were listed.
LibertyShield VPN Speed Test
Usually, when it comes to speed, customers have different experiences with VPNs and this depends on a few factors. One of them is the number of servers they offer. We were not satisfied by this feature, as Liberty Shield VPN only has 14 servers in 9 countries. Several of their servers are located in Commonwealth countries such as the UK, New Zealand, and Canada but they also cover Germany, France, Spain, and the USA. However, fortunately, this didn’t make a huge difference in their case.
Some users had difficulties with their speed, but from our experience we can confirm that Liberty Shield offers a decent speed, making it easy to stream multiple HD video streams without buffering. And the unlimited data they offer is just one more advantage. Honestly, this is not something that many providers can offer, as many of them promise great speed but cannot deliver it.
Therefore in terms of speed, we are satisfied but nonetheless, this VPN has a lot of place for improvement in the future.
How is Customer Service at LibertyShield VPN?
When it comes to customer service, with Liberty Shield VPN you can choose between a live chat and an e-mail or ticket submission system. The live chat, however, is not available 24/7 but when they are online, they offer a pleasant experience and can be very helpful and informative. It can be easily found on their main page, in the lower right corner. When submitting a ticket, the response time is also quick, but it can last up to a few hours, which is not that bad. Apart from this, they offer a knowledgebase where you can also find the FAQ button. Additionally, when you enter their website, you will notice that they have a blog, which was rather informative.
Their webpage is very transparent, and you can find info about the company, including their address. Unfortunately, they didn’t include a phone number, because their main communication with customers happens online. However, the customer service they offer might be one of the best features of this VPN Company.
Another great thing, besides their customer support, are the features they offer. Some of them are the basic VPN features, such as guaranteed anonymity, zero logging of your browser activity, etc. As mentioned before, you will receive access to 14 servers in 9 countries, great speed, and unlimited data allowance to stream.
With any of the subscriptions listed above, you also get full access to either their VPN or Proxy Server in those 10 countries, and you have an unlimited number of switches between both countries, as well as VPN or Proxy connectivity. This is one of the best features this VPN has to offer, so instead of getting a VPN only, you get a reliable proxy server compatible with Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Another advantage is the possibility of connecting to multiple devices simultaneously.
Liberty Shield is compatible with more devices, such as Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
What we found a bit disappointing was the design they used for their webpage. It not very appealing, and it’s a bit basic, but nonetheless, they offer all of the information you will need, such as features and policies.
Installing and setting up their product is easy, and they also offer setup guides for both VPN and for Proxy.
Overall, although some things are missing, we were satisfied with Liberty Shield’s features.
Is LibertyShield VPN Safe?
One of the first things you will find on Liberty Shield’s page will be the information that they use a 256-bit encryption on their VPN servers. In terms of safety, this is as high as it gets. It ensures that you will be protected from hacking or tracking.
Unfortunately, even with this , Liberty Shield offers rather low security and protection. They currently support only PPTP and L2TP security protocols. They lack Open VPN protocol which is the most secure one, and only mentioning that they hope to provide it in the future. For a company that has been in the business for 10 years now, this is something that should not be allowed. And although LP2P supports up to 256-bit session encryption keys, PPTP supports only up to 128-bit session keys which in terms of security is not the best option.
In conclusion, Liberty Shield is not one of our favorites, mostly because of the privacy and security policies they have, but it’s a VPN that we would recommend to users that have no issue with this. After all, they do offer a great service, and if you are not concerned about any legal issues, you can certainly use this VPN/Proxy service provider. Liberty shield has successfully managed competition and kept its place high on the lists for ten years now, meaning they know what they are doing.
